RF Semi-Rigid Cable

Semi-rigid is a coaxial cable that uses a solid copper outer sheath. Semi-regid coax cable offers superior screening when compared to cables with a braided outer conductor, especially at higher frequencies. Semi-rigid cable is also called "hard line" cable.

Semi-rigid coax cable is commonly used in aerospace, test equipment, wireless, medical and low PIM applications, and preferred by many professionals for its increased phase stability and lower insertion loss. Semi-rigid cable provides much better electrical isolation and lower noise levels vs flexible coaxial cable.

Another advantage of semi-rigid coax is that it can be bent into and hold intricate shapes to accommodate complex cable runs, such as inside a chassis. Semi-rigid is very durable and can survive harsh shock and vibration environments, such as a jet fighter or a missile. It can also handle large temperature swings, depending on the coax dielectric.
